For the first time ever, an AMA Supercross race was canceled due to rain… On March 27, 1977! ☔️ Yes, it did happen before, at Texas Stadium in Dallas, when the doubleheader was called off after one night of racing due to a torrential downpour that turned the track on the floor of the open-air stadium into a giant bowl of mud stew. 🥴 Cycle News described the 20-lap main event as “the longest moto ever” because it lasted nearly an hour, with many dropping out with burned clutches, seized engines or even running out of gas. ⛽️ Even after Saturday night’s race, the promoters and the AMA weren’t sure if they could race on Sunday, so all of the mechanics and teams stayed up all night trying to clean and fix their bikes.
