skaiwater doesn’t care about rap purists. “Madhouse” is an apt summary of how gghettoprincesss’s music feels. On their 2024 album ‘#gigi’ skaiwater filtered regional scenes like baile funk and Jersey club into a bass-blown reinvention of underground rap. Their latest album, February’s ‘wonderful,’ abandoned that for straight-up chaos: elements of beats redline, melodies peak through layers of Auto-Tune and distortion, endlessly sampled vocals, adlibs, and SFX smash into each other at similar frequencies. It is often intense, sometimes even deliberately challenging, but it is not so niche nor inaccessible as their detractors would have you believe.
