More notes from a photographer’s life: One of the best lessons I ever learned in photography was to “arrive early, leave late”, which is a constant reminder to me that there are always interesting moments long before and long after an event game ends. Found this young fan doing everything he could to get the attention of Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez for a pregame autograph, and I shot a bunch of different versions and frames of the situation. One thing pro photographers do is take many images in any situation - the goal being to capture the most perfect moment or composition in a scene. Frame 1 is “tighter” (i.e., more closely cropped) in order to focus on the young fan’s face as it’s pressed against the netting. Frame 2 is “looser” and adds the fan at upper right, whose intensity adds to the scene. Which do you prefer, and why? Please leave your thoughts in the comments! Thanks, as always, for looking.
