SAGUARO NATIONAL PARK: The iconic, towering saguaro cactus that populates the desert landscape is the largest columnar cactus found in the United States. The Tohono O’odham tribe has used the saguaro for shelter construction and the fruit for food and beverage (they even make candy out of it!). The saguaros also serve as both food and shelter for wildlife that call the Sonoran Desert home. There are so many different ways to experience the beauty of the Saguaro National Park - hiking, scenic drives, museums, picnic areas, e-bike - it is a must-visit when in Tucson. Passes are required, but a private vehicle day pass is good for 7 days and, if you are hiking, get an early start to beat the heat and snag a parking spot (don’t forget plenty of water!).
