Senate Republican lawmakers are adding $1 billion in public funds to a new spending bill to support President Donald Trump’s White House Ballroom, a project that was first billed as a privately funded endeavor. The White House says “Private donations are paying for the ballroom,” but that the bill, “gives much needed security and hardening and training money” to the Secret Service.
