The last time I was in Kentucky, I skated to my stepdad’s grave during my Skate Across America journey. He was from Kentucky, and the last and only time I had ever been to Churchill Downs was with him, he told me that one day I had to come back for the Derby. I’m beyond proud to be here with Ford on my stepdad’s birthday weekend. He would have been 73 this year, and if he were still here, would have brought him.
