Olivia Andre and her family filed for asylum as a unit after coming to the U.S. from the Democratic Republic of Congo in December 2022, when Andre was a minor. They made their way to Maine, where Andre graduated high school a year and a half early, the family’s attorney said. She was in her first year of college to become a nurse when ICE arrested the family, detaining Andre separately as an adult and sending her to Dilley Immigration Processing Center in South Texas, where she remains today. Andre, now 19, is still considered part of their asylum application that is under review by a federal circuit court.
