Spring Animal Update 🌤️🦏🦓 As the weather starts to warm up, it’s easy to assume that sunny skies and milder temperatures mean it’s the perfect day for everyone to head outside. In reality, spring conditions are incredibly fluid. What feels nice to us doesn’t always mean it’s safest for some of the animals in our care here at your Toronto Zoo. Every single day, our Wildlife Care team assesses paddock conditions before animals are given access to their outdoor spaces. They’re checking things like ground stability after it rains, how muddy the area is, and what the temperature actually feels like for each species. Even slightly soft ground can cause animals to sink in, which can put strain on their joints or increase the chance of slipping. Ground conditions can affect each species differently.While softer terrain may impact stability for some animals, others, like the White rhinos, benefit from mud to cool off and protect their skin.
