So... should we be thanking Matthew Knowles for “Single Ladies?” 🤯➡️ Matthew Knowles took to IG to share the story of when Beyoncé nearly left “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” off ‘I AM…SASHA FIERCE’, due to it sounding too similar to “Crazy in Love.” “She played ‘Single Ladies’. And I was like, ‘Wow, you’re not going to put that on the album?’ She’s like, ‘No, Dad, I’m not going to put that on the album.’ I said, ‘Why, Beyoncé?’ She said, ‘Because it sounds like “Crazy in Love,”’ Knowles recalled in the video. For additional context, Matthew was the executive producer of ‘I AM…SASHA FIERCE’ so he did have say over what was going to make the cut on the final version of the album. 💿 “And I was like, ‘Beyoncé, that’s the reason why it should be on the album. It’s a hit, just like ‘Crazy In Love’.” 👏 And just like that, the world was gifted the earworm of 2008.
