Leaf and stick insects evolved through natural selection over millions of years. Random mutations that made some insects look slightly more like leaves, twigs, or dead plants helped them avoid predators. Those insects survived longer and reproduced more successfully, passing those camouflage traits to future generations. Over time, their bodies became incredibly specialized, even mimicking leaf veins, decay spots, and plant textures.
