This year, I kinda fucked up. I didn’t get clients for 2 months. Why? It took me way too long to figure that out — here’s what I got wrong so you don’t have to:
1. I wasn’t posting consistently.
I’d disappear for weeks. By the time I posted again, the algorithm forgot me and so did potential clients. Once a week minimum. Authentic. Show the work AND the person behind it.
2. I wasn’t outreaching enough.
I thought good work would find me. It doesn’t. Emails, DMs, meetings, referrals, be relentless. you have to stay in motion.
3. My work wasn’t ready and I didn’t know it.
Be honest with yourself. Master the craft. But also learn to communicate your process — process content converts harder than final renders.
4. I didn’t have a real portfolio.
Not a drive folder. Not an Instagram grid. One clean, curated site. Best 5–8 projects. Case studies, not just pretty frames.
5. I had no “why.”
If you’re early in your career, social media IS your why. Post like it. Every upload is a pitch.
