The detained parents of Kevin Gonzalez, an 18-year-old cancer-striken Chicago native, were released on Friday and are now racing to be with their son in his final moments in Mexico. On Thursday, an immigration judge ordered their release from custody and transfer to Nogales. Officials say the hope is that they will soon reunite with Kevin. Kevin, a U.S. citizen, was diagnosed earlier this year with cancer that has since spread to his stomach and lungs. Doctors have told him that treatment is no longer an option. “He has terminal colon cancer,” said his grandmother, Virginia Amaya. “It has invaded his stomach and lungs. He doesn’t sleep. He doesn’t eat.” Kevin’s parents were previously deported to Mexico in 2011. His mother, Anabel, allegedly attempted to reenter the United States in 2024 and was deported again. #cancer #immigration #ice #detained
