Happy Mother’s Day! Meet one of Butterfly Pavilion’s most adorable mothers, Aang! Aang is an Antilles Pink Toe Tarantula who laid eggs and had babies in early 2023 after successfully breeding with another adult male under our care. While tarantulas aren’t known for their maternal care, her babies stayed by her side until their first molt before being housed individually at Butterfly Pavilion. In the wild, only about 2% of tarantulas will make it to adulthood. However, under our care, we’ve significantly increased those chances and are currently housing 14 of her juvenile offspring! You can now see her on exhibit at Butterfly Pavilion, wrapped in heavy webbing as she molts in her enclosure. Happy Mother’s Day!
