A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting in El Mirage that took the life of a teen boy and left another injured.
Police say the incident happened Monday night near Dreyfus Drive, close to Thunderbird and El Mirage roads. First responders found 17-year-old Ashtin Evans seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital, where he later passed away.
Another teen boy was also injured is expected to recover.
Investigators later identified a 17-year-old suspect, who was taken into custody and booked on charges including second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
Officials say the investigation is still ongoing, and additional details have not yet been released.
Family and friends have since held a vigil for Evans, who was a local high school student and athlete.
