A man living in Arizona under a false identity has been arrested in connection to a 34-year-old murder case in California.
Authorities say 64-year-old James Lawhead Jr. was taken into custody in Bullhead City after advanced DNA testing linked him to the 1991 kidnapping and killing of 35-year-old Cindy Wanner.
Investigators say Wanner disappeared from her home, leaving behind her belongings — including her car — and her infant child. Weeks later, she was found dead miles away.
Officials say Lawhead had been living under the name “Vincent Reynolds” for years and had moved between multiple states while avoiding detection.
The case was finally cracked after new forensic testing and facial recognition technology helped confirm his identity.
Police are now looking into whether he could be connected to other unsolved cases.
After more than three decades, investigators say this is a step toward long-awaited justice for the victim’s family.
