May 9th is National Train Day this year! It is observed on the closest Saturday to the anniversary (May 10) of the the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869. For today, Jared letterpress printed one of our newer pieces in our shop from the Bill from Chico Collection, which was donated a couple years ago. This large halftone depicts Pennsylvania Railroad engine No. 5409, a K-4S (4-6-2). Nicknamed the “Pacific,” it was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February 1927 and was retired in February 1955. This is a view of the engine in 1930. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. #NationalTrainDay #train #SacHistoryMuseum #sacramento #museum
