Patricia Barron opened Big Mama's Kitchen in 2007 at age 65. She fed people, hired people others had written off and told her kids and grandkids: everyone is a friend. She died in 2018. Her family kept a promise to her: to keep the restaurant going. Today, Big Mama's Kitchen is the 2026 OMA Tourism Award winner for Best Restaurant in Douglas County. First-time winner.
