The Kearney High girls soccer team is headed to the state semifinals after a 5-0 win over Millard South in the Class A state quarterfinals on Monday. The second-seeded Bearcats (17-2) broke through early and never looked back, earning their first state tournament win in more than a decade and advancing past the quarterfinal round after falling at that stage the past two seasons. Kearney wasted little time getting on the board, as Molli Kalsbeck scored in the fourth minute — the earliest goal of this year’s tournament — to give the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead. The Bearcats added to their advantage just before halftime when Reese Holscher capitalized on a misplayed ball by the Patriots’ goalkeeper, finishing in front of the net for her team-leading 25th goal of the season to make it 2-0.
