lens·man /ˈlenzman/ n. - A photographer. A cinematographer. A visual storyteller. Someone who doesn’t just point a camera, but sees what others walk past. The term traces back to mid-20th century press rooms, newsreels, and war correspondence - where lensmen were the ones sent into the field, whether in times of war or peace, to bring back the image when words weren’t enough. Behind every cool photo or video is a creative. One who’s under that smoke banking down on a front porch. Strapped onto that aircraft while someone jumps out. Hanging off the side of a cliff while someone climbs. Creatives need to be mentally in the moment, notice details, compose an image to create emotion, keep the subject in focus, know their camera settings and adjust a dozen things at once…all while not dying.
