This Mother’s Day, Clearwater Marine Aquarium is celebrating a historic milestone for one of the ocean’s most endangered moms: the North Atlantic right whale. We are thrilled to share that the 2025–2026 calving season concluded with 23 calves documented, the highest count our teams have seen in 15 years!
Tracking these mothers and their calves requires intense collaboration. Our CMARI aerial survey teams worked in lockstep with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Georgia DNR, NOAA, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute to monitor the coast from North Carolina to Florida. Together, we tracked whale activity and ensured protections were in place.
