According to the OPP, a wheel came off an eastbound vehicle Friday night, crossed the median, and slammed into a westbound vehicle, leaving the driver with significant injuries and sending them to hospital. Photos from the scene show severe damage to the front windshield and upper frame of the struck vehicle. Police say the driver of the vehicle the wheel came from has been charged with driving an unsafe vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act, with fines ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. With many drivers recently switching to summer tires, OPP are reminding everyone to make sure their wheels are properly installed and double torqued after service.
