B.C. Premier David Eby said students, staff, and families made it clear during consultations that they could not return to the school where the tragedy happened. The province says a completely new secondary school will now be built on a different site, while the current building will be torn down. On February 10, 2026, 18 year old former student Jesse Van Rootselaar allegedly klled her mother and half brother at their home before going to Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and opening fire.
