Naha, the capital city of Okinawa! Not so fun fact: I learned during the tour we did on our second day in Naha, that Okinawa consistently ranks as the poorest prefecture in Japan. Wages remain low while cost of living is high. A bit more of a fun fact: Many restaurants have a program in place where you can “pay it forward” and pay for a child’s meal. This is because often times, Okinawan children are latchkey kids. This program allows these kids to go to their local restaurants for a warm free meal!
