I know this topic can be controversial…
but pregnancy nutrition is often presented as far more black & white than it actually is.
A lot of official guidelines are designed to reduce all possible risk, which makes sense from a public health perspective.
But nutrition matters too.
And sometimes I think that part gets lost.
Because what I see more often now is women becoming afraid of food.
Avoiding eggs.
Avoiding red meat.
Avoiding fish.
Avoiding nutrient-dense foods altogether.
Meanwhile pregnancy increases demands for:
→ protein
→ iron
→ choline
→ minerals
→ omega-3s
For me, it comes down to understanding context.
Where the food comes from.
How it’s stored.
How it’s handled.
What the actual level of risk is.
One thing that’s also important to understand is that public health advice has to be blanket advice.
It has to apply to:
→ everyone
→ every lifestyle
→ every level of food quality and hygiene
Not everyone is sourcing high-quality food.
Not everyone stores food properly.
