Teaching has always been central to Deb’s identity.
After stroke, her body and communication changed – but that core part of who she is did not.
As we continue to rebuild our lives, we’re continually asking ourselves: How do we honor a lifelong calling in a new body? How do we allow an important identity to evolve without erasing it?
There’s no easy answer. It’s a process of commitment, creativity and, yes, constant frustration for Deb that she can’t teach the way she used to. Like so much about recovery after stroke, this will be a lifelong learning journey.
