Basketball was first introduced into the Commonwealth Games programme at Melbourne 2006. England fielded teams in both the men's and women's competitions. England Men were in Group B and up against New Zealand, Barbados and South Africa. The roster featured legends of the English game including Fab Flournoy, John Amechi, Ronnie Baker and Steve Bucknall. A 2-1 record saw the lads progress to the semi-finals, where they were beaten 101-75 by Australia.
