Meet Gianna Petrangelo, a nursing major from West Warwick, Rhode Island, and this year’s student commencement speaker for the College of Nursing. Gianna chose nursing for the connection it offers through supporting patients and families during some of their most vulnerable moments. That interest grew into a passion for pediatric care, where even small acts can make a lasting impact. At URI, Gianna served as a nursing ambassador and mentor, supporting fellow students throughout the program. Her clinical experiences, especially in pediatric settings, played a key role in shaping her as a future nurse. There were moments when everything clicked, walking into a patient’s room unsure and leaving with newfound confidence. Just as meaningful were the in-between moments spent debriefing and laughing with classmates.
