FKA twigs was just announced to star in a Josephine Baker biopic.
The yet-untitled film is a production by French filmmaker Maimouna Doucoure, known for 'Cuties' and 'Maman(s),' and is set to start filming this fall.
Josephine Baker was a prolific dancer, singer, actress and Civil Rights activist, born in the United States, later becoming a French citizen. She worked her way from vaudeville to fame and acclaim in Europe and across the world. She was the first African American woman to star in a motion picture and perform with with an integrated cast at the American concert hall.
Aside from her career, the performer also adopted 12 children from different countries whom she called her "rainbow tribe" and, according to one of her sons, had relationships with both men and women over her lifetime. She passed away in 1975 at the age of 68.
