President Trump recently said he would suspend the federal gas tax amid higher prices stemming from the war in Iran. The federal gas tax accounts for 18.4 cents per gallon of gas (24.4 cents per gallon of diesel). If Trump does suspend the gas tax, that does not include state taxes. Texas's gas tax is 20 cents/gallon. Today (May 11), the national average for gas sits at $4.52/gallon. AAA says the national average was $2.98/gallon just two days before the conflict began.
