Celebrating our history! Mitt Cousins was a prominent local building contractor who served as Venice’s mayor from 1944 to 1945 in the absence of Clyde Higel, who enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. 🫡 For 23 years, Cousins also served as grounds superintendent for the Kentucky Military Institute’s winter campus located in downtown Venice (the San Marco building). 🍃 Mitt was the father of Julia Cousins Lanning, the namesake of the Venice Museum & Archives, recognized for her long-standing volunteer service and contributions to the community as a philanthropist. 🥰 Did you know you can learn more about our city's history at the Venice Museum, Venice Archives, and the online collections that feature historical images, newspaper clippings, articles, artifacts, and more!
