Just In: The mother of a newborn who was found abandoned in a park in Stafford County was found and will not be charged, authorities say.
An “alert citizen” found the newborn in Overlook Park in the Embrey Mill area at about 3 p.m. Tuesday, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said. The baby was healthy but alone. Investigators rushed to the area as they searched for the mother. Neighbors were told to check video from their doorbell cameras.
In an update Thursday, the sheriff’s office said they found the infant’s mother and both she and the baby are safe. They did not release her name or age and said she will not face charges.
“In every case we investigate, the Sheriff’s Office carefully evaluates all information and evidence to determine whether charges are appropriate.
