When a person is deeply traumatized, they’ll often defend the very coping mechanism that’s destroying them, because the coping mechanism feels safer than facing the pain underneath it. Food is one of the most common examples. People overeat, not because they’re weak, but because food can temporarily numb loneliness, anxiety, emptiness, stress, shame, and unresolved emotional wounds. It becomes comfort. It becomes escape. It becomes emotional sedation. And then when the topic of their weight comes up, they get defensive — not just because of the weight itself, but because underneath the weight is everything they’ve been trying not to feel. A lot of people aren’t addicted to food. They’re addicted to avoiding pain. Healing starts when a person becomes willing to face what they’ve been running from instead of continuously medicating it. #TraumaHealing #EmotionalEating #SelfAwareness #MentalHealth #InnerHealing
