Hinging your self-esteem on other people’s opinions is a dangerous game, because most people are speaking from their own limitations, fears, insecurities, and personal experiences. What makes perfect sense to them may have nothing to do with reality and everything to do with the lens they see life through.
If you build your identity around outside approval, you’ll spend your whole life shape-shifting to fit into people’s temporary perceptions of you. One person praises you, another criticises you, and suddenly your sense of worth is constantly unstable.
The truth is, a lot of people giving advice are confused themselves. They project their own unresolved issues onto others and call it wisdom. That’s why self-awareness matters more than validation. If you don’t know who you are, the world will happily tell you who to be.
