For better or for worse, "The Big Bang Theory" (2007-2019) is still a reigning cultural depiction of
#womeninSTEM and science careers in general.
When every American sitcom has anti-intellectual leanings, I also appreciate how TBBT celebrates science and took pains to be accurate in the science.
I found it super sexist and cringy when it first premiered when I was in high school and this is the STEM representation we kind of have to settle for?
However, it's such a popular sitcom it was almost inescapable, always on TV, on the Internet.
Amy's character arc intrigued me to watch the show, and I find her fascinating and a refreshing
#womeninSTEM role model in the era of
#steminist influencers.
