Also have nobody to support us, so the stakes are higher, I saw a insta post where someone was pointing out that a downside of getting a PhD is not getting married or having kids by 35 and that its so sad you are in an 'extended adolescence'. First, this ignores that many grad students are married with kids. Second it suggests that if you don't have kids, aren't married then you are not an 'adult'. Third, also minimizes the value of education and academic pursuit. One section of my #feministsciencesubstack really works hard to decrease the stigma around being a single woman. It's far too pervasive, and the percent of single adults in the US has in fact has declined since 2020. It's very hard being single at times without getting shaming or negative messaging from family for society.
