***New Post ** Inspired by the last women in STEM event I went to where the moderator laughed at the women panelist opening up about breastfeeding There is surprisingly little research on the effectiveness of women’s professional organizations/clubs/networks as an intervention for getting women to stay and succeed in STEM majors and the workplace. The minimal research that has been done suggests they do not substantially prepare women well for the workforce. Given that 50% of women in tech leave by 35 there needs to be more scrutiny on these events and conferences which often charge high fees.
