Derrick Ampofo has been chosen by his class as the senior speaker at Saturday's Commencement. 🎓🎤
As a biology major, Derrick has been an active researcher, intern and volunteer across the globe, from Boston University and George Washington University to Columbia University’s Cancer Program, Johns Hopkins University and a hospital in his home country of Ghana. Closer to home, he has served at Liberty Hospital, Children's Mercy and American Red Cross. And when Derrick saw a gap in healthcare access, he founded the Kansas City Immigrant Health Screenings Initiative.
He plans to complete an MD/PhD dual program and develop metabolic therapies for neurological diseases such as glioblastoma and Alzheimer’s. For his gap year, Derrick has offers and pending applications for research assistant positions at several Midwest universities.
