DeMille reportedly experienced difficult filming conditions and unpredictable weather while working in Arizona during the early 1900s. Southern California’s more reliable climate, year-round sunlight, and diverse landscapes eventually made it a much easier place for movie production — helping shift the film industry west toward Los Angeles.
