Saguaros are built to survive some of the harshest desert conditions in America. 🌵 These giant cacti can absorb and store massive amounts of water during Arizona rainstorms, allowing them to survive through long stretches of extreme heat and drought. A fully hydrated saguaro can weigh several tons, with much of that weight coming from stored water inside the cactus. Their pleated design also helps them expand after rainfall — almost like an accordion. Some saguaros can live for more than 150 years and grow over 40 feet tall, making them one of the most iconic plants in the American Southwest.
