Deep inside the Grand Canyon, there’s still one place in America where mail is delivered by mule instead of truck. 🫏📦 The village of Supai, home to the Havasupai Tribe, sits nearly 8 miles from the nearest road and can only be reached by hiking, helicopter, or pack animals. For more than 100 years, mule trains have carried mail, groceries, medicine, Amazon packages, and other supplies down steep canyon trails to the remote community. According to the Smithsonian and USPS reports, it’s considered the last official mule mail route in the United States. The route runs through rugged Grand Canyon terrain where temperatures can reach over 110° in the summer, and flash floods can quickly wash out trails during monsoon season. Each mule can carry up to 200 pounds of cargo, and the trip into the canyon takes around 3 hours — with the climb back out taking even longer.
