Four years ago, we transformed the schoolyard for Oakland Academy of Knowledge’s older students as one of our very first builds! Last Friday, we returned to do the same for the school’s youngest students. TK–2nd graders at OAK now have a schoolyard of their own with kid-designed play structures, a multi-sport court, new soccer goals, nature exploration areas, a Little Town Library, mindfulness pillars created by Oakland high school students, and 10 shade umbrellas over the play structures — the most we’ve ever installed! Build number 24 in partnership with kaboom and ousdnews, and the first of five planned for 2026 — because safe, beautiful places to play shouldn’t be an exception, they should be a given.
