The clouds were dreary and furious. The wind was wailing. Hail began to spill from above. Seniors Julian Le Riche and Cole Woods were already five hours away from home, but instead of turning around, Woods pressed harder on the gas pedal, sending them deeper into the heart of the storm. After driving 250 miles east in Wood’s pale gray Toyota SUV — packed with laptops, a radar system and complete with an antenna on top — the two had ended up in St. Louis, Missouri.
