I always thought this portrait of Tony Soprano’s Ma turned out well. The furrowed brow along with her intense stare with cold barely blue eyes always struck me as a way to connect that killer personality she had. When painting a chars portrait it’s always easier to be honest with the painting than when you’re painting an actual person. I doubt many would want to be portrayed like this, and if you do paint them as they are then you can potentially offend people. With fictional people it’s a lot easier to paint an honest portrayal of them. Well, that and they’re one dimensional to an extent. They live entirely within the fictional depiction, so the nuance while there is ultimately limited. Any thoughts on this? I just spoke to a class of a good artist friend of mine, @cuylersmith and spoke about illustration and portraiture. Thinking on this, I didn’t really talk much about portraits at all and focused on finding one’s voice as an artist along with industry experiences. Sorry about that,...
