Thought I’d share this little moment I had for myself earlier today, since it’s something I value and believe others may feel similarly. With the semester starting up in a couple weeks (I’m full-time Asst Professor in addition to being an illustrator/artist), client/commission deadlines creeping up, and life being busier than ever with two young daughters I find it difficult to find time to make work for myself. This trip is in a way a rekindling of that love for painting I deeply have. Seeing Van Gogh’s actual palette and being in Rembrandt’s actual home is a surreal experience and awe inspiring. I read the Rembrandt painting method book back to back while in college. You know, the huge one that’s based on his students writings of his teachings and is really good. Van Gogh and Lautrec is where I found inspiration for color after making dark limited palette oils for so long. Both had a tremendous impact on my work, so being here in the streets they walked is a way to tap back into that...
