My second daughter, Penelope was born a year ago this week. To commemorate it her first birthday, I wanted to make a portrait of her for our family. And for you all, I want to share some insight in a 3-part series in how I painted it along with the materials used. Painted on a 6x6 panel using my longtime favorite paint @turnercolourworks Acryl Gouache supplies in thanks to @jerrysartarama and #2 & 4 round mimik kolinsky sable brushes. I had a fairly large palette on this. The main colors for the flesh were luminous rose, orange, red, perm yellow and white. I sometimes used violet, pastel yellow and juane brilliant as well. One thing to remember is the paint to water ratio when making a mark. Turner acrylic gouache has remarkable coverage when layering as you can see. Another thing to keep note when layering paint is to keep an eye on whether or not the paint you’re painting on top of is dry or not.
