The book I've been obsessed with this past week and that kept me awake nights at length is this. I've never been one to venture into Greek Mythology but Penelope's story pulled me in from the very first page. I was hooked, bewitched. The writing was so thorough and beautiful, it felt like watching a movie. But this book is so much more than just another reimagination of Penelope's story. It's brave, and ventures far into the possibility of her developing an affection with someone who was absolutely forbidden, someone nobody would think of. It's also startling to see Penelope's courage, her boldness, audacity and bravery spills out of the book, making you want to actually get up and do something about everything that's going wrong around you. It makes you question what freedom truly is. What salvation like for slaves and people we've regarded as second class citizens our whole lives. Can they ever be truly free?
