It is with deep sadness that we at Deering Estate mourn the passing of Evelyn Politzer, a beloved artist, community builder, and gentle force of nature whose work touched everyone who encountered it. Evelyn participated in our Deering Contemporary 2026: Here We Gather… All We Need, We Already Have, an exhibition that could not have been more perfectly suited to her spirit. Curated by Dainy Tapia, the show celebrated community, ecology, and the act of gathering. Evelyn embodied all of these things. Her piece Air Hug, presented on our grounds, reminded us that connection transcends distance, that care can be woven into form, and that art, like a hug, has the power to hold us. Evelyn described her practice as "conveying nature's plea for interconnectedness through yarn, thread and fabric," working from small tapestries to monumental sculptural forms.
