This story is absolutely INSANE! 😳
In the 2026 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Uar Bernard with the 251st overall pick in the NFL Draft — a defensive tackle from Nigeria who had never played a single snap of organized football at any level.
Bernard, 21 years old and listed at 6’4” and 306 pounds with six percent body fat, first participated in football-related drills through an NFL Africa camp in Nigeria after being identified by former NFL defensive end Osi Umenyiora.
He was selected for the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program in January 2026 and trained in Florida for approximately ten weeks before the draft. At the IPP Pro Day, he ran a 4.63-second 40-yard dash — the fastest ever recorded by a player over 300 pounds — and posted a 39-inch vertical jump, both program records.
Bernard joins Australian offensive tackle Jordan Mailata, who was also an NFL seventh-round pick in 2018 with no prior football experience and went on to become a starter for the Eagles.
