But honestly, some of the assumptions people make about our family really do blow my mind sometimes.
I saw somebody say that we’re “trying to make our kids gay” and I just sat there like… do people genuinely hear themselves? 😭
We’re not trying to make our children anything other than good people.
That’s it.
People don’t always realize how much thought goes into existing as gay parents or a two dad family. Straight couples can hold hands, kiss, talk about their relationship around their kids and nobody thinks twice. For us, it can feel different. Sometimes it’s the stares. Sometimes it’s awkward energy. Sometimes it’s comments like “there are children here” as if our family is somehow inappropriate.
Even little stuff people would never think about can feel isolating. Filling out school forms and one of us having to cross out “mother” and squeeze our name somewhere else. Wondering if other parents are uncomfortab...
