“I felt lonely,” she says. “I was young and I couldn’t work.” Through Stroke Onward’s Community Circle (SOCC), Katie began attending SO Live events like Coffee and Conversation and Rebuilding Identity Series. “SO Live and Coffee & Conversation give me something to look forward to and have helped me make friends.” Today, Katie can walk 3 miles, hosts a young stroke group at the National Aphasia Association, can drive with her adaptive steering wheel and is getting married to his partner in August 2027.
